Practitioners
Dr Clive Harden BDS, LL.B
Clive has worked in Hunts Cross since he qualified from Liverpool University in 1978. Dentistry has advanced a long way since then, and he has regularly attended educational courses to ensure his knowledge has kept pace with changing technology and materials. Clive’s two main interests in dentistry are giving people back the confidence in dentistry that a nice smile can bring, and the design and replacement of teeth with dentures. Due to his in depth knowledge he regularly lectures to groups of dentists at meetings around the country.
He is involved in the teaching of medical and dental students at Liverpool University. Clive is always looking to further his knowledge and experience and is studying for a Masters degree in advanced restorative cosmetic dentistry.
Outside dentistry you will frequently find Clive at an airshow or an airport, following his other interest of aviation.
Dr James Garside BDS
James is also a Liverpool graduate, a little more recent however having qualified in 1998. He joined the centre after qualification and has been here ever since. He has regularly attended many educational courses to ensure his knowledge is constantly updated. Some of these courses Centered on facial rejuvenation , which means we are the only practice in South Liverpool to be able to offer Botox and fillers(restylane) along with your normal dental work.
James also is involved with teaching medical students at Liverpool University. James is always looking to further his knowledge and experience and is studying for a Masters degree in advanced restorative cosmetic dentistry.
Outside dentistry James is a keen football player, but sadly will never make the Premier League!
Dr Ben Harvey BDS, BSc
We are pleased to bring Ben on board as part of our expanding team.Ben qualified from Liverpool in 2009, after having gained Honours in his final examinations. He has many interests within Dentistry, and as with Clive and James is very keen on cosmetic dentistry.
We were not too sure how he would fit in at our practice as he is a Man United supporter but we hope to help him see the light. His other interests also concerned us as he has a pet Scorpion. Still to look at you would never know these details and we are very pleased that Ben chose to come and work at Hunts Cross.
Dr Mike Horrocks BDS, MSc
Mike graduated from Liverpool in 1984, and has worked in the practice since then.
He has always had a special interest in endodontics, and gained a Masters degree from Manchester in this speciality. He works alongside James and Clive but limits his work to patients who require endodontic treatment.
He is also involved in teaching, and frequently can be found speaking at meetings in different parts of the country. Mike has always felt that he wanted to instill his enthusiasm of endodontics to other dentists and he has set up an MSc teaching programme at Chester University on which he acts as lead tutor.
Like Clive he has a keen interest in aircraft, and is also often to be found at an air display.
Dr Peter Smyth BDS, MSc
Peter graduated from Dundee in 1992. Peter has a wide range of interests in Dentistry and gained an MSc in Prosthodontics from Manchester. Peter accepts referrals from other practices in the North West for some of the more complex work which many practices are unable to provide.
Peter also enjoys teaching , and is often found speaking to groups of dentists on a variety of topics.
Dr Rosalie Beveridge BDS
2007 saw the arrival Rosalie to join the team. Rosalie qualified down under so to speak in New Zealand. Rosalie always keeps us all smiling with her native humour, and her enthusiasm and attention to detail in her work makes her very popular with everyone she meets. Outside work she keeps numerous pets and animals and will gladly tell you about them if you ask.
Catherine Jones DT
Katherine is the latest addition to our team. Katherine recently qualified from Liverpool University as a dental therapist. This means that not only can you rely on her for all your oral hygiene needs, she can restore your teeth as well!. Katherine has fitted in very well since she joined us,and we wonder how we managed without her.
Meet the Rest of the Team
A practice is only as good as all the team members who work in it. While your main contact is with the dentist, they would not be able to work without the excellent help and support they get from their supporting staff. In no particular order we would like to introduce you first to Joanne.
Joanne
She will shortly celebrate her first 10 years with the practice. She qualified as a dental nurse 12 years ago, but not content with that she is now studying at Liverpool University for a radiographic qualification. Joanne works with James, giving him help and advice when needed.Helen
She has also been with the practice many years. She has recently returned to us after maternity leave. Helen is now more behind the scenes doing the huge amounts of administrative work that a practice like ours needs. Helen is like Joanne studying for her radiographic qualification at Liverpool University. To say she is invaluable is an understatement. We just hope she doesn’t want any more maternity leave in the near future.
Toni
The youngest member of the team. She came straight from college and joined us is January 2007. We were all straight away very impressed with her attitude to hard work, and her desire to learn. Toni is currently studying for her DCP qualification. Toni works with Clive, offering him help and advice when needed.
Annette
She is the longest serving member of the whole tem, having been working there for just over 30 years. Presumably she enjoys her work, we certainly rely on Annette to keep us informed on the happenings in Hunts Cross. Annette is one of the first faces you see as she works in our reception area. Annette is a true “red”, so we all tread carefully on Mondays if the weekend results did not go Liverpools way.
Emma
Emma is our newest recruit to the team. She joined the practice early in 2007 after her gaining her dental nurse qualification at Liverpool dental Hospital. Emma mainly works with Ben, giving him invaluable advice and assistance about the workings of our practice.
Angela
Angela joined the practice what seems like only yesterday but was in fact three years ago. Angela has worked in other practices before joining us, but she says we are the most friendly place she has ever worked in. Outside work she tells us her interests are having a good time, sounds good to us!
Hygienists
Jeff Bull
Jeff qualified in Hampshire, more years ago than he would care to admit. He was serving in the Royal Army Dental Corps, and has served in military hospitals around the world. He especially liked his time while in Germany and the Middle East. After he left the Army Jeff has worked in many practices, always looking for a practice where the role of prevention is foremost in the practice philosophy.
Jeff joined the Hunts Cross Dental Centre seven years ago, where he has built up a loyal following of patients who now expect to see a hygienist as part of their dental health.
Outside the practice, Jeff is a keen Biker and you can always expect a long discussion on bikes if you show an interest. He is also a keen astronomer, presumably gained from looking at the sky when riding his bike.
Little known secret that Jeff is proud of, is that for a short time he was a professional jockey. If his riding is anything like his racing tips he is much better off as a hygienist.
His motto “What a difference a smile makes”.
Karen Hennigan
Karen is our newest member of the team. She joined us four years ago after she too qualified from Liverpool. Karen especially enjoys teaching and showing the young patients in the practice the benefits of good toothbrushing, and a good diet. She is always happy to spend as long as it takes to make sure that we all have a really healthy mouth.
Outside the practice Karen has many interests, and will always talk enthusiastically about them if asked.
