Dermal fillers are alternative method of wrinkle reduction and lip augmentation generally used in the lower half of the face. Again they have been used successfully and safely in the UK for over 10 years.
What are they?
Dermal fillers are an injectable gel which is placed into the skin just underneath wrinkled areas. They work by plumping up the skin or lips to restore a more youthful appearance. At the Hunts Cross Dental Centre we use dermal fillers made of synthetic hyaluronic acid (Restylane®)
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in skin. It helps bind the skin together and hydrates it, giving a smooth healthy appearance.
How are Dermal Fillers placed?
By injection just under the superficial layers of the skin or around the borders of the lips for lip augmentation. These injections are deeper than those used when administering Botulinum Toxin hence we routinely use local anaesthesia to make it painless. The procedure generally takes about 30 minutes.
When and how long does it work?
The results are mostly visible as the procedure is being undertaken, we often allow you to check progress with a mirror as we go along. Due to the local anaesthetic and minor inflammation you won’t see the true results until a couple of days later. The results generally last 6-9 months.
Is it safe?
Yes for the vast majority of people. Hyaluronic acid is a natural product and has undergone extensive clinical testing, so reactions to it are extremely rare. It is not the same as some dermal fillers used in the past, which have produced well-publicised disasters on celebrities.
How much does it cost?
This depends upon the amount of work that is requested. Most people tend to use 1 syringe of the product which is £250.
