How do I know I need a filling?

Attending routine appointments is essential in reducing your need for a filling – your dentist will be able to give you preventative advice on how to avoid them. However, if you do require one, your dentist will be able to spot it. This may require an Xray and treatment the before more serious intervention is necessary.

If you’re experiencing pain or sensitivity when you put pressure on certain teeth or when eating and drinking hot and cold food and drink, your body may be trying to tell you that you need a filling.

What can I expect when getting a white filling?

We will perform an initial examination of your mouth to check it’s healthy and clean before proceeding with treatment. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you might have – we are here to answer them. We may recommend Airflow® tooth polishing beforehand to remove bacteria in your mouth, making it easier for the filling to bond to the relevant tooth. The tooth will be cleaned out and filled so bacteria isn’t able to enter it thereafter – it’s then shaped and hardened using a UV light.
